Thursday September 3rd, will mark the final night for track points in 2015. The night will be sponsored by "Mobil One" with the following divisions in action: NASCAR Whelen Late Models, PALM Chargers, Mini Stocks, and the Vintage Cars.
The NASCAR Whelen Late Models' 2015 Track Championship has already been decided as Sam Yarbrough continues his dominance in the division. Yarbrough now pursues a bigger goal as he currently leads the 2015 South Carolina State Title picture and sits inside the top 15 of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Title standings heading into the final weeks. Thursday's event for the Late Models will be twin 40 lap races. The twin races will serve as "LOCK-IN" races for the UNOH Battle at the Beach event in November. Currently only Jeremy McDowell and Sam Yarbrough have a secured provisional in the race. If one of those drivers are to win, then the next highest finisher not locked in will secure themselves a provisional spot in the annual November race. There is also a cash bounty set in place this Thursday if another driver is to dethrone Yarbrough from winning, as he has one 11 of the 16 races this season. Yarbrough must finish on the lead lap for the bounty to be claimed making it a possible $2500 to win if a driver is to sweep both twins beating the Chad McCumbee owned # 20 car. With the CARS Tour making their tour stop at MBS on September 19th, perhaps some of their Late Model drivers will come get in a race before the highly anticipated CARS event.
The Charger Division has quickly emerged itself as the most exciting class at the speedway in 2015 and their final points' race doesn't look to disappoint. The top five drivers in points are only separated by 18 points with all five having a legit shot to walk away with the track championship. Ed Williams hopes to three-peat with his third consecutive title in the division but he will have to hold off Chris Throckmorton, Steve Jones, Joe Armakovitch, and Michael Elliott. Throckmorton has shown great consistency all year with top five finishes, while Armakovitch is coming off of two straight wins, and the veterans Jones and Elliott stay in the midst of the title picture with their good runs week in and week out. The Chargers will Euro Qualify for their 25 lap feature event where a champion will be crowned.
Mini Stocks will wrap up their 2015 points year with a familiar family at the top. The Fulford family, who have been a dominant name in the division, finds brothers Willie and Adam chasing the season title. Willie holds a 13 point lead heading into the final race. A close battle is set for the final podium spot in standings as well between drivers Michael McKinnon and Randy Hewett. Mini Stocks will run a 5 lap heat race to set the starting grid for their 20 lap main event.
Pit gates will open at 12 pm with grandstand gates opening at 5 pm. Qualifying / heat races begin at 5:10 pm with main events to follow the meet and greet session at 7 pm. Admission will be $15 for Adults, Kids 12 and under FREE.
