MASS Street Stocks Headline Wounded Warriors Night at Southern National Motorsports Park

August 28, 2015

LUCAMA, NC - When racing resumes at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night, August 29th, the fan favorite Street Stocks will again be in the spotlight when the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock (MASS) Championship Series comes to town.
Four-time Southern National Motorsports Park Street Stock champion Greg Barnett leads the MASS championship standings by nine points over Sonny Shoffen and 13 points over Jeff Melton. Barnett won the lone Street Stock race held at Southern National this season and enters the August 29th race as a favorite to win again while Melton won the most recent MASS race held last Saturday night at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina.
In addition to the race on Saturday, the MASS drivers will have a three hour open practice on Friday, August 28th from 1pm-4pm. Following the practice session, the drivers will be treated to dinner at the track thanks to Big Belly's Cooking Team, Musicman Mobile DJ Service, Down East Off road, Eureka Mini Mart, Green's Auto Salvage, Smith Auto Body, the Black Peral Racing Team, Raynor Farms Racing Team, Mike Bushee Motorsports, The Crawford Girls, Southern National Motorpsorts Park, John Boy and Billy's Grilling Sauce and Carl and Chelle's Grill Room. The Friday afternoon practice session is included in the $40 weekend pit pass.
The Late Model and Charger divisions will both run twin races on August 29th.
The twin Late Model races add more excitement to an already intruging championship battle which was again shaken up in the last race. While Andrew Grady extended his lead over Jonathan Findley, he lost ground to Tyler Matthews who finished second in the first race and won the second race back on August 2nd. Mike Darne won the first of the two races on August 2nd.
The twin races put the Charger division in the spotlight on August 29th with the opportunity for drivers to bring home as much as $700 in winnings for their efforts. The bonuses in the Charger division include an additional $200 to any driver who sweeps both races or, if nobody does sweep, $100 to the driver with the best combined average finish in the two races.
Last time out, Paul Williamson scored his first career Charger division victory and is in a dead heat in the championship standings with Michael O'Brien. O'Brien will be a favorite among the wounded warriors crowd during the race. However, behind the championship frontrunners, Tom Sauls, Al Coombs and Nicholas Fulgham lurk. The top-five drivers are separated by 12 points and, with two races, one driver could flip the script and turn the entire championship picture upside down.
The U-CAR, Legends and Bandolero divisions will also be in action on August 29th as a part of Wounded Warriors Night at the Races.
