IRWINDALE, CA - Races twelve and thirteen of the 2015 eighteen-race chase for the Seidner's Collision Centers Late Model championship are all set to bookend Saturday night's set of seven separate racing events ... showcasing short-track racing at it's very best.
With three wins and five second-place finishes, Agoura Hills' own Trevor Huddleston leads the SCC Late Models by a scant 42 clicks over Highland's Toni McCray (514 to 472). McCray has won more races (6) than her young opponent, but had a bad start in the beginning of the year and has been playing catch up ever since. Covina's consistently consistent Mike Johnson is only 16 points shy of McCray in third with 456 markers. As with just about every appearance of the SCC Late Models, Saturday night's race will be a double-header ... Two complete point-paying races, one to open the show and one to cap off the night. It should (no ... WILL) be fun!
On a night of "two-fer" races the Universal Studios Hollywood Bandoleros (does anyone else think that sounds like a Roller Derby team?) will run their second race of the weekend (after one on Friday night). McKenzie Eshleman has (yet another) slim points lead in this one, 20 points after seven races. The young lady from Twin Peaks leads Upland's Zack St.Onge 346 to 326, with Kayla Eshleman only 24 back in third with 302 ducats.
OK, two more for the see-saw: the INEX Legend Cars will run a rare (for them) set of "twins" on Saturday night. As we often say, that's a chance to head out of the pits on Saturday with 100 beans in your wallet, but also the chance to really rack a racecar in the first race and get NO points ... You take your choice and push on the accelerator pedal accordingly. Only 16 points separate Chad Schug (Oak Hills) from Darren Amidon (Lakeside) 200 to184. BTW: that 200 means that Schug has won every Legend race run here thus far.
Two touring divisions will visit at Irwindale on Saturday night, the SRL S2 Tour, and the Pick Your Part Southwest Tour Trucks. Arcadia's Johnnie Butler leads the SRL/S2 contingent and Ventura's Ed Cutler leads the PYPSWTT group. Both of these divisions feature identically-speced-out cars and the racing is always tough and tight.
PARTY RIGHT ON THE TRACK: One of the best parts of every Irwindale Speedway event is the On-Track Autograph Party, always free with fan's admission. It starts at 5:45 p.m. when all of the fans in the stands are invited right down on to the race track to meet the drivers and check out their racing vehicles.
Sure the kids love it, but, you know what, it's just as much fun for everyone in family ... And the drivers and crews love meeting the fans. Please come early and come right down on the racetrack!
Gates open to the public at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.
