This Sunday afternoon April 12, it’s the first major asphalt race of the season in the Midwest, with the running of the 38th Annual Spring Classic at Rockford Speedway, featuring an 88 lap main event for the Big 8 Late Model Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet. This year’s Spring Classic again promises to be exciting, with drivers from six states converging on Rockford Speedway, looking to start their season off right with a win on the historic ‘high banks.’ The Big 8 field is led by reigning Big 8 Series champion Casey Johnson, along with last year’s Big 8 runner-up and local favorite Austin Nason and 2013 Rockford Speedway champion Alex Papini, who plans to race both the Big 8 and Mid-American features this weekend! Former Spring Classic winner Michael Bilderback and former National Short Track Championship winner Josh Nelms are also among those planning to battle the Big 8’s best Sunday afternoon, along with champions and challengers from all across the region! Joining the fun on Sunday afternoon are the Quest Industrial Mid-American Stock Cars and the American Ethanol Super Trucks. The Mid-American Series opens their 23rd season Sunday with a 50 lap main event, while the Trucks make their first ever Rockford appearance, contesting Twin 25 lap features. Gates open at 11 AM Sunday, with Qualifying at 11:30 AM and the first green flag at 1 PM. Adult admission is $20, Students 12-17 are $10, Children 6-11 are $5, with kids 5 and under free!

If you’re looking for a place to stay this weekend while in town for the 38th Annual Spring Classic, please consider Holiday Inn Express in Loves Park. Holiday Inn Express in located minutes south of the Speedway on Riverside Blvd near Interstate 90. Also, be advised of the continued construction project in the area of Rockford Speedway, focusing on the widening of Highway 173 to Interstate 90. Competitors are advised to continue entering the Speedway in normal fashion (via Forest Hills Road) and may enter at the usual pit entrance or at the new (currently gravel) ‘right-in-right-out’ on Forest Hills Road on the north end of the Speedway property. As for spectators, the main entrance to Rockford Speedway on Highway 173 is now a ‘right-in-right-out’ also, meaning turning into the main entrance from the east is not possible. Spectators arriving from the east may enter the Speedway parking lot via Forest Hills Road and the gravel ‘right-in-right-out’ or by turning left into the Speedway just west of the main entrance on Highway 173, at the Forest Hills Lodge entrance (Burden Road stop light).

Next Saturday April 18 officially kicks off another season of NASCAR Whelen All American Series Racing at Rockford Speedway, with the Pepsi 68th Season Opener! The first Saturday night race of 2015 features the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsman, Miller Lite American Short Trackers and Kickstart Roadrunners along with the Sam’s Drive-In Roadrunner Challenge ‘Driver/Fan Easter Egg Toss.’ Gates open at 5 PM next Saturday night, with the Stateline Staffing Services Fast Dashes going green at 7:07 PM. Adult admission is $12, Students 12-17 are $8, children 6-11 are $5 with Kids 5 and under FREE!

The Car Show begins at 11 AM and gives fans an up-close look at the racecars that will take to the track later that night!
Fans are also invited inside ONYX during the show to enjoy the wide variety of items on the lunch menu AND to vote for the “Best Appearing Car” at the Preseason Car Show. The winner of “Best Appearing” will be announced during pre-race ceremonies Saturday night.
