SOPHIA, NC - On Sunday, March 8th, 2015 Caraway Speedway kicks off its 50th Anniversary Season. Caraway Speedway’s Track has seen many well-known racers in its 50 years of operation including: Dale Earnhardt Sr., Dale Earnhardt Jr., Bobby Labonte, Dennis Setzer, Mike Skinner, Sam Ard, and Jimmy Hensley. All of which are well known for making it big in the Nascar world of racing. All have been Caraway Track Champions, with the exception of both Earnhardt Jr. and Sr.
The highlight of the 50th Anniversary Season will be Saturday, August 29th with $3 admission, and Caraway Speedway will honor the top 50 drivers that have competed at the Speedway in the 50 years of operation.
Sunday, March 8th will be the start of this momentous anniversary. The lineup for Sunday includes a 100 Lap Nascar Late Model Stock Event, 50 Lap Nascar Late Model Truck, 30 Lap Nascar Limited Late Model, 25 Lap Legends, 25 Lap Nascar Chargers, and 20 Lap Mini Stock Events.
For those wishing to prepare for the races by tailgating, Trackside parking gates will open at 10 am on Sunday. The Grandstands open at 12pm (noon), and the green flag will drop at 2pm. Adult admission is $15, youth admission (7-14 years) is $5, and kids (6 & under) get in free!
Darren Hackett, Caraway Speedway Promoter, has been at the track since 1984, is in his 5th year as promoter, and his family has owned Caraway Speedway since 1977 spoke on the excitement of the 50th Anniversary Season Opener: “I have been at this track for many years. I have been able to see the great racers that have come through, and the great races that still happen here every race night. To see this track reach its 50th Anniversary is an amazing sight. All of us here at Caraway are excited to show the public what we have in store this year for all of our fans and wonderful supporters. Sunday’s races look to be an exciting start to a milestone race season here at Caraway Speedway.”
If you cannot make the 50th Anniversary season opener, next week (March 14th) is the Nascar Whelen Southern Modified Tour season opener. Caraway Speedway is expecting a field of 25 cars. There will be several northern drivers, including the reigning northern champion, and is set to compete against southern regulars. It is set to be an exciting night at the track, with a lot of great competition.
