NASCAR Postpones Season Until Martinsville Due to COVID-19


Statement from NASCAR:

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - "The health and safety of our fans, industry and the communities in which we race is our most important priority, so in accordance with recent CDC guidance, NASCAR is currently postponing all race events through May 3rd, with plans to return racing in Martinsville. We appreciate the patience of our fans and we look forward to returning to the racetrack. We intend to hold all 36 races this season, with future rescheduling soon to be determined as we continue to monitor this situation closely with public health officials and medical experts. What is important now transcends the world of sports and our focus is on everyone’s safety and well-being as we navigate this challenging time together."

Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, TN - As NASCAR recently announced, the Food City 500 race weekend April 3 – 5 at Bristol Motor Speedway has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

BMS officials will continue to work closely with NASCAR on a rescheduled race date, while maintaining contact with local and federal government and health officials for the latest information on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“What truly makes Bristol Motor Speedway special is not only the exciting racing, but the incredible family reunion feel that exists when all of our fans, guests, community members and businesses come together for a race weekend,” said Jerry Caldwell, executive vice president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway. “That’s why I support NASCAR’s decision to postpone our NASCAR spring event to a later date. The health and safety of everyone who attends races at Bristol Motor Speedway is our top priority and this step has been taken so that everyone can follow the recommended guidelines as advised by government officials. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected by this pandemic. Once we have a confirmed rescheduled date, we will inform you as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience during this time and we look forward to having all of you here once again at the Last Great Colosseum.”

Ticketholders on file at Bristol Motor Speedway and through Food City stores may use their April 3 - 5, 2020 tickets for the postponed event, choose to receive an event credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20% or choose to receive a full refund of their purchase price. The event credit can be applied towards any admissions, including, but not limited to, grandstand seating, infield tickets, camping, fan hospitality and pit passes. The 120% event credit can be used during the remaining 2020 or 2021 seasons for a NASCAR sanctioned event at any Speedway Motorsports owned track, subject to availability.

Fans are advised to hold their current tickets and are asked to complete an exchange request form at http://www.BristolMotorSpeedway.com/exchange to start the process. Ticket office representatives will follow up with fans within 2-3 weeks regarding the status of their request.

Atlanta Motor Speedway

With the health and safety of fans, staff, competitors, race teams and media our top priority, NASCAR and Atlanta Motor Speedway postponed this weekend’s race activities to a yet-to-be determined future date.

Ticketholders on file may use their March 13-15, 2020 tickets for the postponed event, choose to receive an event credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20%, or choose to receive a full refund of their purchase price. The event credit can be applied toward any admissions, including, but not limited to, grandstand seating, infield tickets, camping, fan hospitality and pit passes.  The 120% event credit can be used during the remaining 2020 or 2021 seasons for a NASCAR sanctioned event at any Speedway Motorsports owned track, subject to availability.  

Fans are advised to hold their current tickets and are asked to complete an exchange request form at AtlantaMotorSpeedway.com to start the process.  Ticket office representatives will follow up with fans within 2-3 weeks regarding the status of their request.

“This was a difficult decision to make for our sport, and we regret the uncertainty and inconvenience that has surrounded our race week.  In light of these unprecedented circumstances that continue to change quickly, this postponement is a precautionary move that we feel is the best course of action.  There is great collaboration within the industry to do what’s best, and we ask for patience amongst our fans as we start the online process for ticket credits or refunds,” said Atlanta Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison. “We hope our fans support us in this decision and come back even stronger when we are back to racing at AMS.”

Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, TX - With the health and safety of fans, staff, competitors, race teams and media the top priority, NASCAR and Texas Motor Speedway postponed the March 27-29 race activities to a yet-to-be determined future date.

"Considering the circumstances that NASCAR had no choice but to postpone the race, we obviously support that because public safety comes first," said Eddie Gossage, Texas Motor Speedway President and General Manager. "As soon as we have information on the rescheduled date, we will share it with our fans but we encourage them to hold onto their tickets and plan to join us for the rescheduled O'Reilly Auto Parts 500. It's always the right time to do the right thing and we're going to do right by our fans."

Talladega Superspeedway

TALLADEGA, AL - As NASCAR recently announced the postponement of all race events through May 3, the GEICO 500 race weekend (April 24-26) at Talladega Superspeedway has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Talladega Superspeedway will continue to work closely with NASCAR officials on a rescheduled race date, while maintaining contact with local and federal government and health officials for the latest information on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to thank all of our loyal and devoted fans who were set to join us during our April race weekend,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Brian Crichton. “The health and safety of our guests, NASCAR stakeholders, employees and our community is our number one priority. Dover International Speedway

DOVER, DE - NASCAR announced Monday that Dover International Speedway’s May 1-3 NASCAR tripleheader weekend has been postponed to a future date due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

“The health and safety of our fans, industry and the communities in which we race is our most important priority, so in accordance with recent CDC guidance, NASCAR is currently postponing all race events through May 3, with plans to return racing in Martinsville,” NASCAR said in a statement.

“We appreciate the patience of our fans and we look forward to returning to the racetrack. We intend to hold all 36 races this season, with future rescheduling soon to be determined as we continue to monitor this situation closely with public health officials and medical experts. What is important now transcends the world of sports and our focus is on everyone’s safety and well-being as we navigate this challenging time together.”

Speedway officials are in ongoing talks with NASCAR on the potential makeup dates for the three weekend races, including the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday, May 3, the NASCAR Xfinity Series Dash 4 Cash race on Saturday, May 2 and the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race on Friday, May 1.

"We fully support the decision NASCAR has made for our track and the industry," said Mike Tatoian, president and CEO of Dover International Speedway. "We share in the disappointment for our fans that were planning their trip to the Monster Mile in May, but this decision is in the best interest of everyone. Dover’s Aug. 21-23 NASCAR tripleheader weekend, including the “Drydene 400” NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday, Aug. 23, the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday, Aug. 22, and the “General Tire 125” ARCA Menards Series East race on Friday, Aug. 21, remains on as scheduled.
