Travelers Rest Speedway to Host First Ever ULTIMATE Super Late Model Event

TRAVELERS REST, SC - Travelers Rest Speedway will host its first ever ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series event this Saturday night, August 15th. The Whitey Whitesides Memorial will pay $4000 to the winner of the 40-lap feature race. The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series, in just its 5th year of competition, has quickly become the premier dirt late model series in the Southeast. The series sanctions some of the highest profile and most lucrative events in the region. “We feel like the ULTIMATE Series would offer us the most for our race fans. We wanted to do a super (late model) race and we wanted it to draw the best drivers in the area. I believe we will have that for the Whitey Whitesides Memorial.” said Travelers Rest Promoter Scott Childress. The Series will come to Travelers Rest with a solid point battle between 2-time titlist Casey Roberts and the defending series champion Dennis “Rambo” Franklin locked at 1st and 2nd respectively. But 2015 Rookie of the Year leader Dustin Mitchell has been improving and slowly closing the gap on the leaders. “These guys have been really mixing it up all year long. They have traded the lead back and forth. Casey has kind of opened up a little daylight but we have a lot of racing left yet. We have had some outstanding racing this year. And we are always excited about going to a new venue for the series. I know there was some concern raised about some surface issues at Travelers Rest but Scott fixed it and has it figured out. They had an outstanding racing surface last week and we expect exactly the same this Saturday.” said ULTIMATE Series Director Kelley Carlton. In addition to the $4000 winner’s purse there will also be the $200 M&W Haulin’ It Fast Time Award along with the Schaeffer Racing Oil by Keith Brady Slick Move of the Race Award, the PPM Race Products Hard Charger Award and the AR Bodies Hard Luck Award presented to eligible drivers. Holly, North Carolina; Johnny Pursley of Clover, South Carolina; Tim Allen of Kannapolis, North Carolina; Kelly Guy of Augusta, Georgia; Kenny Collins of Colbert, Georgia and many other of region’s best drivers.
