Lonesome Pine Raceway Opens 2015 Season with Roger Neece Memorial on Saturday, April 4th

COEBURN, VA - Heavy hearts and sadness far outweigh the excitement that should be brewing with another race season on the horizon at Lonesome Pine Raceway. Local legend and longtime competitor at Lonesome Pine Raceway and Kingsport (Tenn.) Speedway Roger Neece passed away on Monday.

Neece was a staple at both Kingsport Speedway and Lonesome Pine Raceway. From the early days of Super Stock through the Street Stock division, Neece was always a force to be reckoned with. In more than 20 years of competition, Neece compiled 204 victories and 10 championships. Saturday’s season-opening event will serve as a memorial race for Neece. “We were very saddened at the passing of our friend Roger Neece,” said Karen Tunnell, general manager and promoter of Lonesome Pine Raceway and Kingsport Speedway. “Roger leaves a great void in our racing family. He will always be our 'Man in Black'.” Neece, known in the local racing community as “The Man in Black”, piloted the familiar black No. 22. Those attending Saturday’s race are encouraged to wear black in his memory. The Late Model Stock Car division will highlight the night with twin 35-lap features. Also in action will be the Modified Street, Mod 4, Pure 4, Rookie Pure 4 and Pure Street divisions. Pit gates will open on Saturday at 1 PM with practice beginning at 3 PM. Grandstand gates open at 4 PM, qualifying begins at 5 PM and the green flag flies at 7 PM. Adult admission is $10, children 12-and-under are admitted free. Friday night’s race at Kingsport Speedway will also be a memorial race to Roger Neece. Racing begins at 8 PM on Friday.
